Industry: Mental health charity


A leading mental health charity in the UK contacted Blackbox Solutions, having become frustrated with poor service from their previous IT provider, including severe connectivity and cloud synchronisation issues, which were hampering the charity’s productivity and efficiency.

In addition, the charity had recently gained a new contract, which required the existing security protocols to be significantly improved, in order to adhere to the government’s Cyber Essentials scheme to help organisations protect themselves against common cyber attacks.


Blackbox Solutions proposed a complete overhaul of the charity’s document solutions, information technology and telecommunications platforms.

The company installed a new HP Gen 9 server at the charity’s head office to support and enhance the charity’s wireless working, with a second replica server providing document recovery and data backup located at Blackbox Solution’s secure data centre. New IT hardware was also provided, including 16 new laptops, as well as an Apple Mac desktop machine.

Laptops and servers have been protected with Sophos End Point Protection security, with network protection controlled via a Sophos XG UTM Firewall.

Blackbox Solutions also delivered two new Samsung multifunctional devices to handle printing, copying and scanning requirements. A cloud-based VOIP system (‘VOIP Box’) was installed to manage telecommunication requirements, including the deployment of 12 VOIP handsets. The new system enabled the charity to benefit from reduced costs per call and greatly improved portability.


The three year contract has allowed the charity to consolidate its spiralling portfolio of IT, telecoms and document solutions services whilst managing costs, increasing productivity and future proofing the network and systems. The changes have also brought all systems in line with the government’s Cyber Essentials security scheme, while the offsite backup server and data centre provides added security and peace of mind.

Blackbox will continue to work closely to provide remote, onsite and monitored IT, network, and communications support for the duration of the contract along with service contracts to maintain the two Samsung print devices.
